Graduate Medical Education: Relationship of Training Characteristics to Graduate Outcomes

George Washington University proposes to analyze the relationship between program and institutional characteristics and the site and type of practice of physician graduates for residency programs. They will do this in partnership with the Robert Graham Center, known for outstanding research in primary care, and the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), the regulatory body for all of graduate medical education.  The ACGME has the most extensive data base on program content and characteristics that has not heretofore been available for analysis such as this.  Gaining insight about the implications of the sites of training and the nature of practice experiences on the career decisions of residents will inform efforts to improve graduate medical education to meet workforce needs.
