New Issue Brief on Education Strategies for Underserved Patients

We are pleased to announce our new series of issue briefs examining key areas of health professions education. Our first issue brief, released today on the Macy Foundation website, looks at improving education for the care of underserved populations, one of our thematic priority areas of grantmaking.

This issue brief describes the importance of improving the quality of care for underserved populations, and how new curricula and training models can help better prepare healthcare professionals to meet the needs of all patients—regardless of age, race, language, income, education, religion, or sexual orientation. It also provides tips for academic leaders on how to overcome hurdles to implementation and highlights effective models that are being tested with support from the Macy Foundation.

We hope this resource helps guide your own efforts. Please feel free to share it with colleagues throughout your institution or externally, disseminate at meetings, or post on your website.

Over the next several months we will be rolling out additional issue briefs on other Macy priority topics. We hope you find this useful in your work to advance health professions education.
